Alan Swan

Alan Swan is the director of music content at RTÉ 2FM, Ireland's national radio station focusing on popular music. In his role at 2FM, Alan has been instrumental in bringing new Irish music to the airwaves. Through the yearly RTÉ 2FM Rising List, the station has highlighted the very best of new & upcoming Irish talent & music. 

 

A multi Irish radio advertising / PPI radio award winner, Alan is also a member of the European Broadcast Union Eurosonic Expert Group specialising in youth programming.

 

Podcasting is a passion for Alan. He presents and produces “The Outerview” which is a collection of resources, opinions & podcasts on the art of media interviewing. In this series, he looks to explore what it takes to conduct the perfect interview from dissecting classic interviews to discussing techniques with some of the worlds leading interviewers. Guests have included author Lynn Barber, actor Richard E Grant, Ryan Tubridy, Claire Byrne, Dave Fanning, Marty Whelan and sports journalist Ariel Helwani.

 

Alan has achieved various number 1 podcast shows across various genres from the Tommy Tiernan & Hector Ó hEochagáin radio show 'Tommy & Hector' to the RTÉ Innovation Podcast Show, No 1 iTunes Technology Podcast.

 

The most important advice Alan can give to anyone who is looking to start a podcast is very simple. Just do it. The tips and tricks on how to do it properly are covered extensively by Alan in this new workshop.

In this 1 day TVMA course for all levels, Alan Swan will take you through everything you need to know to either plan, launch and market your first podcast or expand on your existing knowledge.

Through hands-on training, learn how to write for the ear, use a microphone, record audio, and edit. You’ll discover interviewing techniques and strategies for reaching and engaging your audience. You will learn about developing narratives and how different styles of podcasts are produced. 

You'll also learn the importance of well-planned launch, as well as the keys to recording a professional sounding episode. Alan will tell you how the audio and podcast landscape is rapidly changing and how it’s funded.
